Why? (A 1-form \boldsymbol \alpha which is a gradient \boldsymbol \alpha = d \Phi must satisfy d \boldsymbol \alpha = 0, by d^2=0)

\Phi is a 0-form, which qualifies as a p-form, so d \boldsymbol \alpha = d(d\Phi)) = d^2 \Phi = 0
